  1. What it would looks like if Rodin went to strip clubs

  2. I was kind of hoping this would go beyond disjointed idealized female asses, and then thankfully we moved onto tits and lingerie. I have seen more remarkable female forms in comic books, and at least those had a face and an actual story to accompany the epic bodies.

  3. The fact that few of these figures have faces shows the artist’s disregard of the female as a true person. Even the few that do have faces are grossly distended and still show the same disregard. Disgusting.

  4. Someone is an ass man ;-)

  5. Well kat, what if the artist was a woman?

  6. These women have no faces. They are just asses, ready to -censored-. I wouldn’t call this remarkable. It looks more like Yet Another -censored- who sees women as objects only.

Women have faces, and hearts, and brains. Depicting a woman as just a big, juicy ass only perpetuates a culture of rape and violence. Big thumbs down for these, here.

  7. bob the mob says:

    @Erin

Yeah, it’d be better if they were shown decapitated and stuffed in refrigerators.

  8. human body is always a subject to art, and its not because its been used as an object, just because human body is unmistakably created
and here instead of judging the mentality i would rather focus on how well worked on marble to create these images..

  9. Sure, the human form has been used in some very fine art, but these sculptures are just plain gratuitous. These are the kinds of works you’d see on sale at a flea market, being bought up by misogynistic simpletons wanting to improve their “bachelor pads.” Utterly tasteless.

  10. I think this is more to show the basic appreciation for the female form…not personalizing them with faces or other distinguishing features..it’s not really a sexist thing..=/

  11. From what i hear the artist’s license plate is “AssMan” & he was the inspiration for the Seinfeld episode.

  12. he may be trying to make a statment about how women are often looked at as objects, not necessarily that he does.

i think these sculptures are very well done, and i applaud the artist.

  13. Well, it’s good to see the world is not lacking in pretentious morons.

First, just because they don’t give their art faces doesn’t mean they are denying women humanity. Please save that kind of bullshit for your Lit class. Any number of reasons could be in play as to why the artist focuses on what they choose. (they because, well shit, who says it’s a guy? You pigs.) First, maybe they just like asses; I don’t blame them, while yes, I find eyes on a lady to be infinitely gorgeous, there is something carnally magnificent about a well-formed ass. It’s art itself. Second, making a well-formed ass is probably a lot easier than a well-proportioned face, maybe they just can’t do it? After looking back over them, ehem, a couple times, I couldn’t help but notice that they didn’t make the girlies vaginas either; What does that say? Oh my goodness, is he even denying the feminine role in the perpetuation of the MALE SPECIES!? How pugnacious!

“Women have faces, and hearts, and brains. Depicting a woman as just a big, juicy ass only perpetuates a culture of rape and violence. Big thumbs down for these, here.”

I don’t know about rape, but stupidity like this definitely perpetuates violence in my society.

  14. It’s the fine line between erotica and porn that Gloria Steinem so beautifully pointed out in her essay about 30 years ago… could also relate this to the “Mud Woman” by Margaret Atwood.

There is a big difference between celebrating the beauty of a human body – or the sheer normalcy of it (I mean, we all have the same basic bits, don’t we?) – and gratuitously exploiting certain items, while erasing the identity. A similar analogy could be drawn between a nude beach and a stripclub. It’s not just the fact that there are few (or no) clothes…

I can admire this artist’s work for the quality of it, but I still shake my head and roll my eyes. Like, please… show me something *other* than base sexual exploitation.

(kind of reminds me of all those “artistic” B&W photographers who decide to take a photo! in black and white! of a naked lady! entwined in a white sheet! Oh! How original!)

  15. a (female) art student says:

If any of you would care to do the research you would realize that many sculptors – especially those who work with carving marble – will carve a basic form and then might view that basic form as a finished sculpture; with or without a face. Biggest example is Michelangelo, look up his later sculptures and you’ll see carvings much like the ones here: bodies with an arm, and maybe a leg, and a rear-end and back showing, but other than that one big chunk of marble; in some of his latest works he would even hardly chip away at all, leaving just stomachs and groin regions, or backs and rear-ends. If this artist here follows Michelangelo’s school of thought then he or she believes that there is already a sculpture inside of the marble that is waiting to be chiseled out, and that often enough the sculpture that is waiting just doesn’t need to be finished.

As for the sexism, it’s hard for me to see. As an artist I just see beautiful forms and masses, and the fact that they were unfinished just helped me come to the conclusion that the artist wanted to emulate the natural curvature of the female form. Faces would have distracted from the sculptures because it would have drawn attention away from the organic lines.

Finally, these photographs are the photographer’s interpretation of the art-piece. To judge these pieces of art from one singular picture of them, and not to look at them in the space that they are to be presented in, is literally like judging a book by its cover. If you want to have the full experience of a sculpture it is nothing like simply viewing a screen-sized picture of the Mona Lisa and moving on. You cannot judge a sculpture (which is THREE-DIMENSIONAL) by photographs alone, you have to be able to view it all around.

Drawing your own conclusions is fine, but don’t expect them to be well-educated if you cannot view the full piece.

  16. I think most of you are looking too far into this. What if that happens to be the part most attractive on a woman for the artist. If this artist is a man, than he is therefore a man. Why are you looking so far into as to say it shows rape and violence. You think he would post these pictures to show he is a rapist. Get over the feminist view and just look for it as it is. Yes the are a bit Risqué but get past your views and actually look the pictures and see the that a girl’s body is beautiful. So, this artist is just accenting a specific part. Get Over It. Its nice work.

  17. Too many extreme feminists commenting. I liked the art, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder I suppose. Reminds me of the women in comic books. Women of this caliber do exist you know. I especially liked the wooden sculptures.

  18. Did someone say rape?… and violence? against women? WOOHOO!!!, Sounds like a good time to me.

  19. Johnny Serresseque says:

Trash is trash, porn is porn,
Whether by film, or sculpture born.
    Sleazy ladies here for sale,
    A permanent piece of schlock

    Or tail.

  20. It’s great to see so many artists and critics at one location.
I noticed the insightful way you admired and/or criticized the artist for his/her work. I say artist because sculpturing is an art, like any other talent. The tactful way of admiring the “Ass man/woman”, and the clarification of the “rapist” and “violence”.
Please, before you chastise this artist too much, did you really look at the work? Did you see that the artist had problems with proportioning the waist with the rest of the body? That all of the bottoms were the same shape? I doubt it. You were busy checking out the “ass’ or presenting a “Harper Valley” attitude. I wish that I could do as half as good as this artist. You may choose what you wish to work with, but you can’t choose artistry. That takes talent and hard work. Personally, I’m a face guy. I love the eyes and cheek bone area. But I so envious of the smoothness of the work and details. As for you simple admirers, hurray for looking beyond the dying leaf and seeing the beauty of Fall.

  21. did someone say sleazy ladies? c,mon tell urselves the truth, yáll want to look like zis, the poor fellow ure flaying just wanted to show u how sex should be,dont act so pure, you all have sex, dont u?, besides,im sure he is trying to depict how the woman should look to a man when they are experiencing coition. some say its a divine experience. i think u all should see this that way. he is trying to show u how u look to him when ure having sex. its, quite simply imaginative erotica…..

  22. Really interesting works!

  23. The art pieces are very wonderful and attractive, for sure it’s having all the forms of beauty for a woman especially african women.as an Artist from uganda christian university,i have appreaciated and i promise to apply what i have viewed to improve on my sculture pieces.keep it up for the good work done.fifi
